Here's how it all began

The photo above shows our current location as it appeared sometime in the early 1950s. The photo was published in the Dec. 4, 1979, edition of the Herald-Times-Reporter, which at the time served the cities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers. The photo shows the Lorenz Restaurant and Service Station, which included a mechanic's garage with two service bays. The owners lived upstairs in an apartment, which is still occupied today. The site was located in the heart of Francis Creek.

In 2009, we started our bakery business in a state-licensed room in the basement of my home. In September 2014, we moved out of the basement and opened a store front in half of our current building. Prior to our move, a beauty shop and a pizza production facility occupied the main floor. In July 2016, we gained access to the entire building and opened a new store front on the opposite end of the facility. Currently, we are a full-service bakery, specializing in custom orders, wedding cakes, all-occasion cakes, pies and dessert bars and are known for our from-scratch giant cinnamon rolls!

The old service station site also contained Muench's Motels, which consisted of 20 cottages/hotels for travelers en route between Chicago and Green Bay. The site was on Old Highway 141 (currently Hwy. R), and, at the time, was the main road to Green Bay. Muench's Motels also housed thrashing crews at harvest season.
